What Do We Hold Sacred?

Before we can really address an economic system that is cruel and destructive, both to the people and the environment, we’re going to have to ask ourselves at some point: What to we hold sacred? What are we willing to protect, with our lives?

There’s a lot of centrist types who would probably answer something like: We hold our child, our families and our country sacred. Something like that, but it’s not true. Not really, really.

As a country we allow great numbers of our children to live in poverty and do nothing about it. We poison them regularly. We exploit them with debt, so either cut off their ability to have better lives, or, if they try, we burden them with debt before they even start. As a culture it’s a bald faced lie to say we hold our children sacred.

The Resistance, Cryptocurrencies And A New Economic Model

It’s been easy to get overwhelmed under the swelling mountain of outrages, atrocities and abominations. They come daily and are thrown on top of an ever-growing Everest of offenses.

It’s easy to get overwhelmed and exhausted and hopeless. The only way I’ve found to keep my head from exploding, or climbing the metaphorical Texas Tower, is to focus on what I believe has led us to this dark and confusing place so we can think about how to get past it. So what has lead us to this place?

Two Generations Of Betrayal

I stepped into adulthood just as Ronald Reagan was being sworn into office. The generation before me, at least the whites, had been the beneficiaries of generous New Deal economic policy and a rapidly expanding economy.

They got houses, and educations and unions that kept their wages high; they got a sense of economic fairness and security, which probably, in turn, gave them a sense of cohesion and confidence in their government.

They voted to end all that for their children. They voted to end the economic thinking that had so benefited them, when it came to their children and grandchild. Not all of them, but enough. And some supporters of these policies, like Paul Ryan, may not be age members of the Boomer generation, but they are definitely philosophically Boomers.

Dear Progressive Caucus, Time To Attack The Oligarch Class

Photograph by Jamelle Bouie 12/17

They have been attacking us, the middle and lower economic classes, for 35 years and their attacks are escalating. It’s time to turn the tables and fight back. Every attack and threat, every move that increases economic anxiety on us has to be doubled and used against them. People will whine that we are calling for a class war, but a class war was declared by the rich and corporate elites long ago against us. But you can call it whatever you want as long as we start fighting back, and fighting back to kill, which is exactly how they are fighting us. Literally.

America Owes Black Women A Huge Debt Of Gratitude

What other demographic so reliably stands and votes decency, dignity and justice? African Americans, and specifically African American women have been the unsung, absolute foundation of the American Left and the Democratic Party for too long now. In Alabama they delivered a dose of much needed hope into a dangerous political season. You can’t really overstate how important their strong voice was in this election. They may have helped turn the tide that will result in saving the country. One of the great ironies of Tuesday’s Alabama special election is that African American women may have saved white working class Alabamians from themselves.

The Psychopathic Corporate Person

The GOPers are busily mashing together their Wealth Transfer Bill. Whether they get it signed into law or not they’ve shown what their dream of dreams is: To make the psychopathic corporate person the master of our country. They don’t even have the decency to hide who their masters are anymore:

Republicans Admit That CEOs And Donors Really Need The Tax Cut Bill To Pass — Or Else

Not only that but the GOPers are down right contemptuous of the the non-corporate beings among us. Senator Orrin Hatch can barely contain his disgust at poor children who won’t bow down to the corporate rich:

The Coup Is Underway –or– See You On The Dark Web

If you want to see a slice of what the future might look like for America, if the corporate coup now in progress is successful, check out Kansas. Koch Industries took over that state’s government some time ago. It ain’t pretty. Their schools are third world-ish, the state judiciary has been knee-capped and they have lots of wind that they could exploit for cheap, clean energy, but the Koch boys won’t let the state do that on account of their big fossil fuel interests. So, yea…

The Hostile Take Over Of America

If we make it out of this mess alive there’s going to be one hell of a clean-up on aisle America. Years worth of mess. Foreign cyber attacks on a, hopefully still, open society.  That’ll be a tough one, but doable. The corporate take over of our country may be harder to clean up. The past 35 years we’ve been cruising down the corporate take over road, but the the last year of Trumpista’s control has seen that take over shifted into hyper-drive.

A Night Of Hope

We needed that. Hopelessness and fear have been palpable for a year or longer now. Finally, a real and serious sign that the sane citizens of America are in this war to win it. The Huffington Post headline: The Future Fights Back, pretty much said it all.

Here’s A List Of Historic Victories Democrats Had On Election Day

Danica Roem’s win in Virginia against GOPer Bob Marshall, who called himself the “Chief Homophobe” and author of the state’s “bathroom bill”, was especially sweet since Danica Roem is a trans woman. She’s also extremely intelligent and gracious.
